Report Cards / Progress Reports / Final Grades
Semester report cards are mailed at the end of each semester, typically in January and May. Progress reports are issued at term and midterm throughout the semester. Progress reports are only available online through FVL's Family Access program. Parents may sign up their Family Access account by contacting the school office at 739.4441. For the 2007-08 school year, only those who request a paper copy of term/midterm progress reports will receive one by U.S. mail.
Only final semester grades become part of the student's permanent record and determine a student's class rank and honor roll status.
Grading System
God asks all His people to work to the best of their abilities. For students, a large part of this means a commitment to doing their best in the classroom. FVL's marking system is listed below:
|
A = Excellent B = Above Average C = Average D = Below Average F = Failure
Plus & minus grades are also given. |
AUD = Audit with no credit I = Incomplete* P = Passing but no credit W = Withdrawal WP Withdrawal Passing WF Withdrawal Failing
|
Failing Grades/ Incomplete Grades
A failing final mark in any required course must be made up in order to receive a diploma. Failure to make up a required course or to earn the total required credits means a student will receive a certificate of attendance instead of a diploma.
An "Incomplete" is given because illness, absence, or some other valid excuse has led to insufficient work being turned in. The student is responsible for all make-up work. An "Incomplete" becomes an "F" if the work is not completed within 2 weeks after the end of the marking period unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Attendance For Credit Policy
Course credit will be forfeited on the 15th absence from a class in a semester course. This includes all absences recorded as a part of the student's attendance record (excused or unexcused). These do not include absences for school-related activities.
After a student has accumulated 10 absences in a semester course, the administration reserves the right to disallow a student's participation in school-sponsored activities that will cause them to miss class. For situations that involving special medical or other reasons for an extended period, parents should contact the school administration.
Graduation Requirements
The following graduation requirements have been set to insure that every student receives a sound basic education while taking into account the varied abilities which God has given to each individual. Beyond these requirements, students choose courses with their interests and career plans in mind. Many FVL students exceed these minimum requirements.

Cumulative Student Records
A cumulative record is kept for each student. This record offers a brief record of a student's progress: grades, grade point average, class rank, test scores, and attendance record. The cumulative record is valuable for placing the student in jobs, schools, and colleges. A written request from a parent (or from the student, if an adult) is required before a transcript of the student's record is sent to an employer or another school. Requests should be directed to the school office or to a guidance counselor.
Transcripts
Credits earned at FVL are transferable to other secondary schools - public, private, or parochial - and to institutions of higher learning inside and outside the state of Wisconsin. Students requiring transcripts should contact the school office. The cost per transcript is $2. No transcript of credits will be issued until all financial obligations to FVL have been met.
Honor Roll
The Guidance Office prepares the honor roll at the close of each semester. Placement on the honor roll is determined by averaging the grades earned by the student. Honor Roll is determined by individual semester not cumulative grade point average. Special recognition certificates and awards are given. All rankings are calculated on the 4-point system.
