Technology & Computers

Technology and computers are vital elements of the curriculum of Fox Valley Lutheran High School. This technology benefits students and their families as well as the school's teachers, administration, and staff.

Students have access to over 200 computers stations at the high school. Five computer labs are spread across the building plus there are also five mini-labs in other classrooms.

In addition every classroom is equipped with a computer teaching station that includes internet access, video networking, and video projector. A number of classrooms are also equipped with Smartboard technology

Students are provided with email service and networked storage space that is accessible from both school and home via the internet. Students have print access to both black & white and color laser printers.

A wide variety of classes are offered to meet student computer needs.  Web design, digital publishing and layout, digital video editing, Autocad, computer applications, and programming are all part of the curriculum.

Concerning computer software, it is FVL's educational philosophy to expose students to the software they will encounter after graduation. The Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Autocad are taught in various courses.

Beginning in 2007, a Moodle educational portal was launched to meet increased teacher and student use of online learning.

All students are provided internet access with the permission of their parent/guardian. The school enforces a strict Internet Policy that describes appropriate use of this tool. Internet access at the school is filtered to minimize access to objectionable sites. The FVL intranet can also be accessed by students from home.

Parental Access to Student Information

In January, 2002, FVL inaugurated its use of Family Access to give parents (with internet access) the ability to check on the progress of their student's attendance and finances. In 2007, this was expanded to include access to student classroom progress with an open gradebook system.

Additional Technology Resources

The Media Center has three computers dedicated to the Athena Card Catalog program and computers to manage for the circulation of media center materials.

The Guidance Department has four computers in the Career Center. These computers are earmarked so that students can spend time researching career opportunities open to them in our changing society.

The school's web site also gives parents easy access to important school information. The daily calendar, maps to area schools, e-mail access to teachers, and much more are available.
