Groundbreaking Service - November 5, 2017
Attend FVL's Groundbreaking Ceremony!
Groundbreaking for FVL's new building addition, approved by the the General Board on September 26, has been set for the afternoon of Sunday, November 5 at 2 p.m. The service will be hosted in the FVL Chapel/Auditorium with the actual groundbreaking taking place on the east patio. A live video feed will be screened in the auditorium for those who may not wish to go outside for this part of the service. The public is welcome to attend.
Presiding over the service will be FVL Board of Regents Chairman Rev. Tom Mielke of St. Matthew-Appleton. Liturgist will be FVL Religion Department Chairman Rev. David Wenzel. Special music for the service will be provided by the FVL Faculty Choir. Visitors are encouraged to park in the East Parking Lot and enter at the Commons Entrance.
Invitations have been sent to every Federation congregation to send a representative for the shovel-turning ceremony that will be part of the service. They will be joined by representatives of the student body, the FVL Coordinating Council and other special invitees to be a part of this special occasion.
Visitors who arrive early will be able to view the plans/drawings for the new addition on display in the Commons. They are designed to ready the school for the growing enrollment projected in the coming years. Current enrollment is 618. Projections for next year show this will rise to over 650 next year and even 700 in the next five years.
What is Being Added?
Focal points of the expansion include the addition of four classrooms as well as two new science labs at the southwest corner of the building. One science lab will be outfitted to serve as the school’s new Bio-Medical Lab to help students preparing to enter health fields. Another important part of the project is added security at the school’s front entrance and additional office and meeting space for teachers and staff.
The plan also calls for a smaller expansion on the east side of the building where an additional Art Room is planned to supplement course offerings that are already full every period of the school day. Next to the Art Room will be a large multipurpose classroom that will be used for numerous classes during the day and to serve cocurricular needs after school as well as being a place to host FVL community events.
Another key component of the expansion plan is the renovating of the Academic Resource Center (library) to better serve the needs of students and faculty since all students now are supplied with laptop computers as part of their tuition. Also a number of interior classrooms will be repurposed to better serve the academic needs of students.
