This semester course presents a variety of cultural conversations and controversies through the lens of American literature. By tracing thematic conversations from their historical roots to the present, students will examine prominent primary and secondary voices in nonfiction, fiction, video, and visual texts. Students practice analytical reading to compare and contrast arguments among authors. Through classroom discussions, students will be expected to share their thinking and respond to works of literature throughout American history. Students will also analyze authors across various time periods throughout the course.
Prerequisite: LA2
Required: Yes, unless taking AAMLIT or L&C1
