MATH-09 - Algebra 1 (ALG1)

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Usually taken in grade 9; Special permission needed to take in grades 10, 11, 12

 

Algebra 1 is a class designed to prepare students for future math work in Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and beyond.  The content of Algebra 1 is organized around families of functions, with special emphasis on linear and quadratic functions, solving in one and two variables, graphing, and expressions involving exponents. Students will also learn to model real-world situations using functions to solve these problems. Students also will use writing to communicate their mathematical ideas throughout the course.

  • Prerequisite: Placement via department testing and evaluation
  • Required: Yes, unless Algebra 1A and 1B are taken
