PPA-STEM - Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS)

1.0 CREDIT
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

In this first introductory course of the PLTW Biomedical pathway, students begin the year by exploring concepts of biology and medicine to determine factors that led to the death of a fictional person.  Students also get the chance to immerse themselves into various medical careers in a variety of lab settings, such as practicing blood draw on a phlebotomy arm and running DNA tests to diagnose genetic disorders.  In the final units of the course, students practice emergency response medicine and brainstorm new medical devices to change the world of healthcare.  The activities and projects introduce students to human physiology, basic biology, medicine, innovation, and research processes while allowing them to conduct experiments to solve problems.
