Music

Students at FVL have a variety of performance opportunities through participation in choir and band. Our students have the privilege of participating in daily chapel and area worship services, regional and national music festivals, and several concerts during the school year.

Students experience the joy of sharing their talents and abilities to the glory of God. They also develop creativity and a knowledge and understanding of music. Performances add to their appreciation of this art.

Art

Sculpture table with paint and brushes

Drawing, painting, sculpting, and visiting museums and exhibits are a few of the ways in which the FVL art students are encouraged to explore, develop and refine their God-given artistic talents and abilities. Our art program assists students in developing visual expression and thought, helps to increase an awareness of and appreciation for art, and serves as a foundation for further study in the field of art.

Choir

FVL offers three curricular choirs that meet daily.

Women's Choir and Men's Choir are offered as a beginning experience in choral performance, focusing on the basic essentials of music and singing. Though typically taken as a freshman or sophomore, these choirs are also open to juniors. They have five concert performances during the school year and may also sing for chapel services.

The A Cappella Choir is a mixed (male and female) choir open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Entrance is by audition only. This choir emphasizes further development of vocal and choral techniques by preparing and performing medium to advanced choral literature, both sacred and secular.

It maintains an active performance schedule by participating in five concert performances and singing for worship services both on campus and at 9-10 FVL Federation churches on Sunday mornings throughout the school year. Members of this choir may also participate in District and State WSMA Solo and Ensemble Festivals. Auditions are held in March or April for the following school year.

See our cocurriculars listing for information about Choraliers.

Band

The heart of the instrumental music program at FVL is the Symphonic Band, a curricular band which rehearses daily. The Symphonic Band studies medium to advanced band literature and ensemble techniques, and also performs in several concerts each year.  All members of the Symphonic Band are also in the FVL Marching Band and Pep Band. All band members participate annually in the WSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival, with 75% or more advancing to the State Solo Ensemble each year.  Interested students participate in the co-curricular Jazz Ensemble, which participates in an annual jazz festival and a spring concert.
