Computer Applications - COMAP

0.5 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This is a semester elective for all grades. Students will develop advanced Word skills such as mail merge techniques and insertion of pictures and charts into Word documents. Students also will enhance their PowerPointskills with various animation techniques. Students will be introduced to Excelspreadsheets with emphasis on formulas, chart creation, and sorting/filtering techniques. Access data base skills will be introduced with emphasis on data base reporting. Students will be introduced to Publisher by creating a variety of publications. The internet will be used extensively

College Introduction to Business - CIBUSI

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This course is designed as an introductory course for all students interested in learning more about business. Students will be exposed to many different aspects of the world of business. A primary objective of the course is to broaden both the interests and horizons of students toward understanding the dynamics of business and business careers. Lectures, readings, presentations by guest speakers, videos, etc. will be utilized to facilitate learning.

Recommendation: students interested in career exploration of business

Marketing - MARK

0.5 credit - available to grades 11, 12

This one-semester course will teach students the principles of marketing as well as hands-on learning by developing a business marketing plan for an area business or organization.

Recommendation: students interested in pursuing education or employment in a business field

Accounting - ACCT

0.5 credit - available to grades 11, 12

This course teachers principles and practices required to prepare and analyze financial statements. Students are prepared for job entry or college-level work.

Personal Finance - PFIN

0.5 credit - available to grade 12

This course is designed to help students develop an understanding of money management techniques, saving and investing options, insurance, personal lifestyle goals and objectives, decision making processes and career choices. Topics also include: budgeting, banking services, credit, identity theft, taxes and housing. Students participate in a stock market game and also go on a field trip to participate in a budgeting simulation called Reality Check. Students are required to job shadow someone in the career they plan to work in.

Recommendation: a practical hands-on course especially for those who will soon be living on their own

College Personal Finance - CPFIN

0.5 credit - available to grade 12

College Personal Finance is a study of the major financial decisions encountered by individuals. Subjects covered include budgeting, use of credit, automobile and consumer durables, insurance, housing decisions, taxes, retirement planning, estate transfer and investments. Each subject is analyzed with the context of a comprehensive framework of personal financial planning.
