Physical Education 2018-19

2 Credits Required for Graduation
(must include Health)

All Physical Education courses are semester courses. Any class may be taken regardless of past or current sports activity participation. Please note fee requirement for summer courses.


Health - HEALTH

0.5 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This is a required semester course that covers such areas as drug and alcohol education, nutrition, major diseases, exercise, rest, and physical health/fitness.

Prerequisite: None

Required: Yes

Note: This requirement can also be met by taking College Health in grades 10-12.


College Health - CHELTH

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This course is designed to provide students with knowledge to improve or maintain health and wellness throughout the lifespan. Emphasis will be placed on the seven dimensions of wellness and how the information relates to the individual, the community, classroom and client. In addition, the student will explore and identify the social and interpersonal factors of health that contribute to the development of individual value systems, goals, and health-related decisions.

This course may be taken in addition to Health for PE graduation credit.

Prerequisite: Student must be age16 sometime in the semester they are taking it

Body Shop - BODSP

0.5 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This course emphasizes the correct mechanics and movements associated with strength training and fitness training. Goal-setting and daily improvement form the backbone of the training programs and student progress in strength and fitness is recorded regularly. Students wear heart rate monitors daily to track and record effort and exercise level.

Heart Smart - HRSMR

0.5 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Class emphasis is on indoor and outdoor individual and group fitness activities that strengthen the cardiovascular system and promote good health and fitness. Fitness progress is measured weekly.

Nets to You - NETS

0.5 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This class focuses on tennis, volleyball, pickle ball, and badminton fundamentals.

Prerequisite: None

Required: No


Personal Challenges - PERCH

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This class emphasizes individual sports and recreational activities that promote lifetime fitness including golf, skating, foot bag, sledding, ice skating, broomball, and snowshoeing. Participants should expect to jog to and from Plamann Park regularly

All-Time Favorites - ATFAV

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This class has an emphasis on CPR, lacrosse, and bowling fundamentals. 

Prerequisite: None

Required: No


College Active Lifestyle - CACLIF

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This course is a contemporary examination of the effects of lifestyle, wellness, and health promotion on the health of the individual.  The class includes procedures for self-evaluation and the development of an individualized wellness program.

Prerequisite: Student must be 16 sometime in the semester they are taking it.

Required: No

Summer Fitness - SUMFIT

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This class emphasizes strength, speed, and functional fitness (aka morning workouts). It usually takes place from early June through the end of July from 6:30 - 8:30 AM.

Prerequisite: Priority is given to students with schedule conflicts for regular physical education courses. 

Required: No

Fee: $150 

This course is offered every summer. 


Summer PE Extra - PEX

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

Course emphasis is on biking, disc golf, geocaching, and other summer activities. Class will run from July 30 through August 17, 2018 from 9:30-11:30 AM.

Prerequisite: Priority is given to students with schedule conflicts for regular physical education courses, and there is a maximum of 30 students. 

Required: No

Fee: $150

This course if offered in alternate years. The next offering will be the summer of 2020.
