World Geography - GEOG

1 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This is an elective two-semester course for students in grades 9-12. Emphasis is on the cultural, political, and economic geography of the world set in the physical geography that nature provides.

Prerequisite: None

Required: No


History 1 - HIS1

1 credit - available to grades 9, 10, 11, 12

A study of civilization from creation through the era of the Middle Ages with an emphasis on God’s guidance of human events. Recommended for students looking to take History 2A or 2B during their sophomore year, and College US History during their junior year. This course may be used as the 3rd required social studies credit for graduation (1.0).

Prerequisite: None

Required: No 


History 2A - HIS2A

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This class is an elective first-semester course which examines world history from the Renaissance period to the 19th century. During the semester, students will identify the major people, literary works, values and ideas prized during the different time periods while reinforcing an appreciation of how God guides the events of mankind to serve his purpose and the blessings that are a direct result of that. This course will provide students with an introduction to world history, preparing them for FVL’s honors history course and basic historical concepts at the post-secondary level. Either World History 2A or World History 2B is required for students looking to take College US History during their junior year.

Prerequisite: 2.75 cumulative GPA or teacher approval

Recommendation: College bound

Note: Credit in History 2A or History 2B is required for College US History.


History 2B - HIS2B

0.5 credit - available to grades 10, 11, 12

This class is an elective second-semester course which examines world history from the Age of Enlightenment to the mid-20th century.  During the semester, students will identify the major people, literary works, values and ideas prized during the different time periods while reinforcing an appreciation of how God guides the events of mankind to serve his purpose and the blessings that are a direct result of that.  This course will provide students with an introduction to world history, preparing them for FVL’s honors history course and basic historical concepts at the post-secondary level.  Either World History IIA or World History IIB is required for students looking to take College US History during their junior year.

Prerequisite: 2.75 cumulative GPA or teacher approval

Recommendation: College bound

Note: Credit in History 2A or History 2B is required for College US History.


US History -  USHIS

1 credit - available to grades 11, 12

This class traces the rise and struggle of the United States as a nation from colonization to a world power.

Required: Yes, unless College US History credit is earned


College US History - CUSHIS

1 credit - available to grades 11, 12

This class is a full-year elective course designed for the highly-motivated and academically-gifted student. The course involves an in-depth study of United States history providing opportunity for research, writing, and discussion.

This course will be eligible for college credit, currently received for the 1st semester content.

Prerequisite: 3.5 cumulative GPA, earned credit in History 2A or History 2B, and submit an application for course admission to your counselor.  Teacher approval may also be necessary for transfer junior students.

Recommendation: highly motivated college-bound seniors with a strong interest in US history

Required: Yes, unless US History credit is earned

US Government - USGOV

0.5 credit - available to grade 12

The emphasis of this course is on the principles of democracy and how it is applied in the federal government framework. Students will also take the required Citizenship test to comply with graduation requirements for the state of Wisconsin.

Contemporary Issues - CONIS

0.5 credit - available to grade 12

This course is designed to help students study personal and social issues in society that affect them as young Christian adults and citizens.

Required: No


College Economics - CECON

0.5 credit - available to grades 11, 12

This class is a basic study of economic systems and concepts with the intent of improving economic decision making.

Prerequisite: 3.0 cumulative GPA

Recommendation: College bound

Required: No

Note: Students planning to take Economics and another social studies course during the senior year are allowed to take US Government during the junior year.

Psychology - PSYCH

0.5 credit - available to grade 12

This is an elective one-semester course that evaluates psychology from a Christian perspective. The student will gain a basic understanding of human behavior and how that behavior relates to others.

College Psychology - CPSYCH

0.5 credit - available to grade 12

This is an elective one-semester class that evaluates psychology from a Christian perspective. The student will gain a basic understanding of human behavior and how that behavior relates to others. This course will be more academically rigorous than regular psychology and will be eligible for college credit.

Prerequisite: cumulative GPA of 3.25 or ACT of 24, and submit an Application for Course Admission to your counselor

Recommendation: College bound
