Whether you are considering FVL for your child or have already enrolled, we know that transitioning to high school brings a lot of questions.

We have organized our most frequently asked questions into the timeline below to help you find answers quickly. If you can't find what you need, our Admissions Office is here to help!

Admissions, Tuition, and Enrollment

Is there an enrollment deadline?
Enrollment is accepted almost year-round. It closes briefly in the fall to prepare systems for the upcoming school year, and is open for 8th Grade Welcome Night in late October.
How much is tuition and what are the financial deadlines?
Please view our current rates on the Tuition and Fees page. The first tuition payment is due by July 31. Financial assistance application deadlines can be found on our Paying for High School page.

Preparing for the School Year (Summer Checklist)

When does my student get their class schedule?
Schedules are available via Skyward Family Access starting July 15. Alternatively, your assigned Mentor will bring a physical copy during your August home visit. Note: Schedules may be adjusted up until Orientation Day.
What are Mentors, Mentor Groups, and Mentor Visits?
Every student is assigned a teacher who acts as their mentor. They meet weekly for Bible study, community building, and check-ins. In late July or early August, your mentor will call to schedule an at-home visit to deliver your student's school lock, class schedule, and help you set up your online school accounts.
How do I check grades, attendance, or hot lunch balances?
All of this is managed through Skyward Family Access. Parents will receive their login credentials by July 15.
Where do I find info on dress code, school supplies, or transportation?
The Dress Code is listed in the handbook, which is a sub-page under the Parents Page. Schools supplies and transporation details are also sub-pages under the Parents Page.
How do I find out what is going on? Are there announcements?
Yes. We have daily Student Announcements as well as weekly Parent Announcements. They are both on the Parents page.
What if my child needs to take medicine?
Please refer to the Medication Policy (linked on the Parents Page) for more information.
Does FVL have Chapel?
Our weekly schedule usually has chapel four times a week with Bible Reading or Mentor Bible Study on Wednesdays. Most of our chapels are livestreamed to our YouTube channel, so you are able to watch them as well!
Does FVL offer piano lessons?
We no longer offer on-campus piano lessons, but we can recommend excellent local instructors. Please contact the office for a list.

Orientation Day & The First Week

What happens on Orientation Day?
New students will attend sessions on school technology, time management, and high school expectations. Student photos will also be taken (order forms are mailed in the summer newsletter). Note: Lunch is NOT provided on Orientation Day.
What should my student bring to Orientation Day?
School supplies, locker accessories (shelves/magnets), and money to load onto their lunch account.
How do students find their locker and get a lock?
Lockers are assigned and located during Orientation. School-issued padlocks are delivered by your Mentor during the August home visit (the cost is included in your tuition). Only FVL-issued locks may be used.
Can parents meet the teachers and tour the school?
Yes! In late August/early September, we host Orientation for Parents of New Students alongside our Meet Your Teachers night. You will learn to navigate our online portals and walk through your child's schedule to meet their instructors.

Athletics & Cocurriculars

How do I find information on clubs and activities?
Explore the Cocurriculars Tab on our website. For specific club questions, please email the designated advisor or coach.
When do sports practices begin?
Fall practices begin early in August. Check our online calendar or contact the head coach for exact dates.
What are the WIAA Physical Exam requirements?
- Is a physical required?
  Yes. WIAA mandates that no student may practice without a physical exam on file.
- When is it due?
  Please mail or bring the form to the School Office at least one week before practice starts. Do not give it to the coach on day one.
- How long is it valid?
  Exams taken on or after April 1 are current for the following school year. You can use a physical for a second consecutive year by signing a WIAA Alternate Year Card (available on the WIAA website or our Parent Portal), provided the student has not suffered a serious injury.
Are there other documents or forms that need to be read or completed to participate in athletics?
Yes. After July 15, you need to log into your Skyward Family Access account and complete the Handbook Agreement and the WIAA Rules of Eligibility.

Once school starts, I am sure I will have even more questions. Can I talk to someone?
Every year, in late August or early September, we offer "Orientation for Parents of Freshmen and of New Students." Parents are walked through the website, learn how to log in to find their child's grades and lunch balance, and are given resources for more information. This is a great opportunity to ask questions!

I don't know my child's teachers - is there any way I can meet them?
The same night as our "Orientation" (referred to above), we also have what is called "Meet Your Teachers." Parents of all students - new and veteran - are encouraged to join us for an opportunity to walk through your child's schedule. Teachers introduce themselves and their classes. They let you know what will be expected of your child for the class.
