Ping Pong-New Activity

Earlier this school year, a new ping pong club was formed at Fox Valley Lutheran High School, opening up another opportunity for students to get involved. It provides students with a chance to be active, socialize, and unwind without the pressure of a full-time sports commitment.

The club welcomes players of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned pros, and emphasizes a low-pressure, inclusive atmosphere. Attendance is flexible, allowing students to participate as their schedules allow—something especially appreciated during the busy high school years.

“It’s exciting to give students a chance to be part of a sport without the extra obligations,” club advisor Christie Buschkopf commented. “It’s really about having fun, connecting with friends, and trying something new.”

In addition to friendly games on a weekly basis, the club hosted a much-loved teacher vs. student tournament. The competition was tight, with the students narrowly taking the win, and everyone enjoyed seeing their teachers show off some unexpected ping pong talent. Teachers have also joined in casually throughout the semester, playing matches and connecting with students after school.

Thanks to grants from Thrivent, the club has been able to offer snacks and drinks—much appreciated by students coming straight from class.

“I had a lot of fun in the ping pong club, and I’ve definitely improved my skills,” said student David Breiland. “It’s a great way to challenge yourself and hang out with friends!”

While there are no plans for off-campus tournaments yet, the club has already made a big impact by creating a relaxed, welcoming space for students to play, learn, and connect.
