06 - Media Center
The Media Center can be used by students before or after school as well as during their study hall. Hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on school days except during chapel. The atmosphere is to be quiet and orderly. No food or drink (except water in bottles) may be brought into the Media Center. Students are to handle materials and equipment with care and return them to their proper places. Equipment must be used at its assigned work-station. The Media Center staff are available to assist students.
- Website & Sora App
The Media Center website (called Accessit) and Sora websites are available to all students. On them, students will find a listing of available physical and electronic materials, can place holds, manage and renew current loans, and can also submit feedback to our Media Center staff. Instructions and links are at fvlhs.org/media-center.
- Borrowing Materials
Student IDs are used to check out all materials. Checking out materials for other students is not allowed. Books are checked out for a period of three weeks and may be renewed on the Media Center website. Students are allowed to renew a material up to two times, after which they need approval from the Media Center staff. Students may have no more than ten books charged to their account at one time.
- Loaner Computers
Students who forget a laptop at home may check out a loaner computer from the Media Center. Students who check out a loaner computer will take full responsibility for it while it is under their care. Unless told otherwise, students must return loaner computers to the Media Center by the end of the school day. Priority of loaner computers will be given to students whose computers need repair.
- Reserve/Reference Books
Reserve books must be used in the Media Center and returned at the end of the period. They may be checked out for overnight use after the last period of the day and must be returned before the first period of the following school day. Reference books and current issues of magazines are only for use in the Media Center and must be returned at the end of the period.
- Returns and Overdue MaterialsAll materials are to be returned to the Circulation Desk and given to the Media Center Assistant or placed in the book drop. Students are responsible for the return of materials on or before the due date. Students will be reminded by email of a due date five days before the material is due. Students who fail to return materials by the due date will receive further emails and notices. While no late fees will be assigned, students who fail to return materials after an extended period of time may receive disciplinary action, including being charged for the replacement of any unreturned materials.
