07 - Fire Drills/Emergency Procedures

According to state law, fire drills are conducted on a monthly basis. Fire escape routes are posted in each classroom. When the alarm sounds, students should proceed quietly and quickly in single file. The first persons through the exits should hook or hold open the doors. All doors should be closed and locked after the last person exits the area. Any fire should be reported immediately to the nearest faculty or staff member. Students will stay outside until the “all clear” has been given via the intercom.

FVL also has a crisis management plan—including plans for intruders in the building—intended to provide safety for our students, faculty, and staff. Students receive training in the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Safety Protocol. Periodic drills will take place.
